Seaside Heights Fire Department...The A Team ![]() ![]() ![]() Search Continues in South Seaside Park June 26, 2009 - On June 25, 2009, Stations 44 and 45 were dispatched at 2250 hrs. to the area of 22nd. Avenue in South Seaside Park for a missing elderly woman. Crews responded and searched the beach and the water but results were negative. About 45 minutes later, Seaside Heights and Seaside Park Fire Departments were released and the Police continued the search. The NJ State Police Marine Unit and US Coast Guard were called to perform a search from the air and water. At 0917 hrs. on June 26, county dispatched all Zone 1 Companies (Seaside Heights, Seaside Park, Lavallette, Ocean Beach, Island Heights, East Dover, Toms River Co. 1 & 2, Bayville, Manitou Park, Pinewald Pioneer, Pine Beach and Beachwood) to respond to 22nd. Ave. to assist with the search. Also assisting was the Seaside Park Police Department, Berkeley Twp. Police Department, Tri-Boro First Aid Squad, Ocean County Sheriffs Department, Ocean County Prosocuters Office, Ocean County Fire Marshalls Office, NJ State Park Police, and American Red Cross. Members were divived into two man teams, and were sent to walk the streets and knock on doors are seach around homes. Around 1300 hrs. companies started to be released and at about 1345 hrs. all companies were relaeased with the woman still missing. Local police will continue the search. Quick and Successful Rescue in the Atlantic June 25, 2009 - At 1915 hrs. Seaside Heights and Seaside Park were dispatched for a swimmer in distress in the Atlantic Ocean in the area of Lucky Leo's Arcade. A few moments later Rescue 4406 was enroute with a full crew. 4406 arrived on the beach, followed by Assistant Chief Urcinole (4410) and Battalion Chief Rumbolo (4420). Members quickly launched the Rescue Ski 4436 with Asst. Water-Rescue Captain DeMoss and Firefighter Semeraro. At this time Rescue 4426, Seaside Park Chief 4500 & Rescue 4526, and Chief Samarelli (4400) all arrived on scene. The two rescuers on 4436 went about 75 feet out when they were met with a man on a surfboard who was holding the young boy. 4436 towed them into shore where firefighters rushed into the ocean to help pull the boy out of the water. The boy, who was alive, but weak, was placed on a backboard then loaded into the back of Rescue 4526 and brought up to the street end were Tri-Boro First Aid Squad was standing by. After being loaded into the rig, he was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River. Seaside Heights and Seaside Park were on location for about 20 minutes. Members would also like to thank the man on the surfboard who held the boy until the Fire Departments were on scene. Crew Responds to Early Morning MVA June 14, 2009 - At 0432 Station 44 was dispatched for a clean-up from a Motor Vehicle Accident on Sheridan Avenue, right behind the firehouse. A couple minutes later, Mini-Pumper 4422 was enroute and quickly on the job to find a two vehicle accident with fluid spills. Second Lieutenant Cabral (4450) established MVA Command while firefighters applied Speedy-Dry to the fluids, then cleaned up. The crew remained on scene while the tow company removed the one vehicle which received severe damage, then finished the clean-up. About 20 minutes after dispatch, Lt. Cabral terminated MVA Command and 4422 was clear and avaliable. Training Continues for 44 and 45 June 9, 2009 - Yet another acquired structure drill for Stations 44 and 45, Seaside Heights and Seaside Park Fire Departments. The drill was held in a single 3 story wood structure on Grant Ave. in Seaside Heights. Members went over four different operations; in the front of the structure, on the first and second floors, firefighters went over Wall Breaching and FAST Ops., lowering a charged hand line through the floor to a fallen firefighter and safely pulling him up. In the rear of the structure on the third floor with SPFD Captain Hansen watching over, members went over Search & Rescue procedures and on a detached one story structure in the rear, firefighters went over proper Ventilation procedures with SHFD Second Lieutenant Cabral explaining and watching over. The drill was a big learning experence for all who attended. Congratulations May 30, 2009 - We would like to congratulate Joe DePiano, Mike Ehrenkranz, Lupe Guevera and Dan Jensen for all passing the New Jersey State Firefighter Level I Exam. The graduation will be held at the Ocean County Fire and First Aid Training Center on June 30th. Welcome to the brotherhood guys! Another Acquired Structure Drill May 26, 2009 - Near 60 Firefighters from Seaside Heights Fire Dept., Seaside Park Fire Dept., Lavallette Fire Dept. and Ocean Beach Fire Co.3, despite rainy weather, all took part in a drill held in 3 acquired structures in Seaside Heights. Firefighters went over proper hose line advancement, search & rescue procedures and FAST Ops. Officers threw in some curve balls, such as a Firefighter down during Search & Rescue, sending in members as a FAST team to locate and remove the firefighter, and for a full evacuation of one of the structures due to "intensifying fire", and for members to take a full exterior attack. Over all the drill was a big success and learning experience for all who attended. After, Seaside Heights VFD invited all back to the firehouse for food and drinks. Good Luck May 21, 2009 - Officers and Members of Station 44 would like to wish the Probationary Firefighters, Joe DePiano, Mike Ehrenkranz, Lupe Guevera and Dan Jensen, the best of luck tonight on their Firefighter Level I Exam. Acquired Structure Drill May 19, 2009 - About 40 Firefighters from both Seaside Heights Fire Dept. and Seaside Park Fire Dept. took part in a drill that was held in 4 acquired structures on Blaine Ave. in Seaside Heights. Two of the structures were used for Roof Ops., while the other two were used for Search & Rescue and FAST Ops. At Roof Ops. with the use of Truck 4405, firefighters went over proper ways to to cut ventilation holes in the roofs. At the one house, fog machines were used to simulate smoke in the structure, and firefighters had to locate and remove a victim for both the first and second floors, and at the last house, firefighters went over FAST Ops. and had to locate a firefighter who had fallen through the floor and use a charged hand line to lower into the floor and then pull the firefighter safely up. The drill was a big success and afterward, firefighters returned to SHFD for food and drinks.
